“Man is not a detached spectator of a progress immanent in human history, but an active agent remoulding the world nearer to his ideals.” — Dr. S. Radhakrishnan
“SERVICE needs to be done without expecting anything in exchange. The God gives us everything we need in our life but He never expects anything from us. We too should serve the society in the similar way without expecting anything from those who are being served,” -- Sri Sri Ravi “
When we see our own image in others then we feel their problems as our own problems. This is what is called sewa. We have to understand the sufferings of our own brethren who have been languishing for years and extending them a helping hand is our responsibility. Serving the needy is the best work in the world. Our services should reach all those who are incapable. The service needs to be rendered with utmost honesty and commitment.” — Baba Ramdev
“We have to reach the society. If the common man is hungry and is not literate, we have to first make him capable of earning his livelihood with dignity and honour and this can be done only through sewa.” — Shri Mohan Bhagwat
“If any men or creatures come to you, do no discourteously drive them away, but receive them well and treat them with due respect. Shri Hari (God) will be certainly pleased if you give water to the thirsty, bread to the hungry, clothes to the naked and your verandah to strangers for sitting and resting.” — Sai Baba of Shirdi
Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best to those who dream and work. — Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
Even charity is unconditional in Hinduism. There are no subtle conversion techniques and publicity gimmicks. Rajadharma ordains that even a King cannot have a good night’s sleep even if one of his subject is sleeping on an empty stomach. When an Atithi (uninvited guest) comes to our door at noon, it is our bounden duty to welcome him and give him food. Other kinds of charities, viz., giving away wealth, property and clothes etc., require some discrimination, but in the matter of food, no such consideration is necessary. All charities are imperfect without Anna Daana. Anna Daana is the best of all merits.”” Lord Sri Krishna (In Mahabharata):
“annadah pranado loke pranadah sarvado bhavet tasmadannam visesena datavyam bhutimicchata” The giver of food is the giver of life, and indeed of everything else. Therefore, one who is desirous of well being in this world and beyond, should specially endeavor to give food. Taittiriya Upanishad:
“na kamcana vasatau pratyacaksita tasmadyaya kaya ca vidhaya bahvannam prapnuyat aradhyasma annamityacaksate” Do not turn away anyone who comes seeking your hospitality. Therefore, obtain a great abundance of anna, exert all your efforts to ensure such abundance; and welcome all seekers with the announcement that the food is ready, partake of it. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. -– Martin Luther King, Jr.
I am endeavoring to see God through service to humanity, for I know that God is neither in heaven, nor down below, but is everyone. I am a part and parcel of the whole, and I cannot find Him apart from the rest of humanity.” — Mahatma Gandhi
Service which is given without consideration of anything in return, at the right place and time to one that is qualify, with the feeling that it is one’s duty, is regarded as the nature of goodness. — Bhagavad Gita, 17.20 O people! Those of you who have attained higher, middle or lower status in your respective fields of work, enjoy the wealth thus gained together as one. With the resources of the production of material goods at your disposal, dedicate your life to eradicate the evils of society and strive at all times for the well-being of the people. – Rig Veda 5.60.6
